COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho — The training and boarding facility Faithful K9 remains closed as animal control investigates the facility for neglect and abuse.
Now, criminal charges could be filed against them.
The family who lost the dog is still grieving tonight. Tiffaney Price-Eddington said her dog, Bellatrix, was healthy and vibrant before her stay.
"To wait so long to where it's too late, I don't understand what they were thinking," Price-Eddington said. "[I] definitely would like someone to be held accountable for the neglect."
The business was shut down and had its license revoked after officers found violations that weren't corrected within 24 hours.
Through a public records request, KREM 2 News is learning that there is much more to this story.
The 16-page report details not only a lack of water and shelter from the scorching July heat; animal control officers also found dirty and packed conditions, and it's not the first time they've dealt with abuse calls at this facility.
"I am very familiar with Faithful K9," one animal control officer wrote in the report. "Based on prior animal abuse-related calls."
The City of Coeur d'Alene revoked the facility's license a day after animal control first visited. The report details dogs left unsupervised outside in the heat where the ground temperature reached 119 degrees in places.
Some dogs were digging holes to find cooler ground. Inside and out, animal control found empty water bowls.
Some animals appeared to already be suffering heat exhaustion.
Animal Control recommended half a dozen charges against Faithful K9 employees, saying conditions showed a lack of care that resulted in Bellatrix's death.
