Car fires in North Spokane 'too suspicious' to be random, investigator says

Two unoccupied cars were burned in North Spokane early Wednesday morning. Investigators are looking at the scene for signs of arson.

SPOKANE, Wash. — An investigation is underway after two unoccupied cars caught fire in North Spokane early Wednesday morning.

The cars caught fire in the area of Northstar Lane and North Cedar at about 2:30 a.m. on Wednesday, according to Spokane Police Officer John O'Brien.

A spokesperson for the Spokane Fire Department told KREM that the department has an open investigation on the car fires. One of the cars burned was a 2019 BMW, which he said seems "too suspicious" to be random.

He added that an investigation into a house fire in east Spokane is taking precedence over the investigation of the car fires.

Spokane County Fire District 9 also has fire investigators currently looking at the scene for signs of arson, Assistant Fire Chief Doug Bleeker said on Wednesday morning.

Bleeker said they're coordinating with the city on the investigation.
