AIRWAY HEIGHTS, Wash. — The woman accused of running a 70-year-old man over with his own car and ultimately killing him reportedly did so after he offered to pay her $40 for sex, according to court documents.
Alyssa Bray, 27, is charged with first-degree murder, hit and run and theft of a motor vehicle related to the death of 70-year-old Gerald Fox. Bray is accused or stealing Fox's car before running him over and killing him. According to newly filed court documents, Bray told investigators Fox offered her money for sex before she locked herself inside his pickup truck and ran him over. She also told investigators she doesn't know why she did it, according to documents.
On the evening of April 9, court documents state Bray was walking along US Highway 2 in Airway Heights when Fox drove up beside her and stopped. Bray told investigators Fox offered her $40 for sex, so she got into his pickup truck and the pair drove off.
Bray said the pair drove around Airway Heights for more than 30 minutes before Fox pulled off to the side of Sunset Frontage Road and got out of the pickup. She told investigators he started walking towards the passenger side of the truck, where she was seated. When Fox got out of the truck, Bray told police she locked the doors and got into the driver's seat.
Once Fox realized the doors were locked, Bray said he started walking away, at which point she drove towards him, allegedly hitting and killing him in the process. According to police, Fox was partially clothed and appeared to have been thrown into a nearby fence.
During Bray's interview with police, she reportedly said she "didn't have to do that."
"I didn't have to run him over, he was only trying to help me, but I seen that he wanted more of me and it gave me a gross feeling," Bray told police. "I didn't have to kill him."
According to documents, police received a report of what appeared to be a dead body on the side of the highway. When police arrived and started processing the scene, they were alerted of a truck driving erratically. After their initial investigation, police said it was determined to be Fox's truck presumably being driven by Bray.
Officers were not able to locate the truck at the time, but later learned that deputies with the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office spotted the truck, engaged in a short pursuit with Bray and ultimately arrested her. Bray was initially arrested for driving under the influence, but documents state she was later charged with first-degree murder.
Bray appeared in court for the first time on Wednesday afternoon. Her bond was set at $1 million.
According to documents, Fox pleaded guilty to possessing child pornography in 2022. Records show he was registered as a sex offender in Spokane County.
