SPOKANE, Wash. — KREM 2 News has now confirmed what was only alluded to in a previous press conference and in federal charging documents.
On August 2, after Aaron Aung faced a federal judge, U.S. Attorney Vanessa Waldref said Aung had worked with multiple people in the scheme to take his two-year-old daughter to Mexico.
"There also are very concerning allegations about how the defendant worked with his fiancé and family to be involved in removing the child from the United States," she said at the time.
Now we know three people have been indicted by a federal grand jury: Aaron, his father Jaimes who appeared in court August 9, and a still-unknown third defendant.
"There is another defendant who was listed in the indictment and has been charged, but that information remains under seal pending that person's arrest or appearance in federal court," Waldref said Monday.
She said there's no estimate on when that could happen.
"I don't have a set timeline, that can vary depending on the circumstances of the defendant," she said.
All three defendants, based on the indictment, are charged with conspiracy to commit international parental kidnapping and international parental kidnapping.
Waldref said those two charges carry a maximum prison sentence of eight years.
Judge James Goeke also ruled Monday that Aaron Aung will stay in custody until trial or his case is concluded.
Jaimes Aung has a detention hearing set for Wednesday morning.
