WASHINGTON, USA — UPDATE: Amtrak service between Portland and Seattle restarted on Tuesday, Jan. 23.
Service for Amtrak Cascades trains between Portland and Seattle will be modified until Tuesday due to a track closure south of Kelso, according to Amtrak.
The company cited previous weather events as the reasoning behind the track closure which is expected to remain until Jan. 23 at 10:45 a.m., when tracks are expected to reopen.
Amtrak Cascades trains between Portland and Seattle have been canceled over the weekend due to the landslide, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation.
Amtrak previously tweeted about the cancelation of service at 2:40 a.m. Saturday. The Washington State Department of Transportation said the landslide covered the railroad tracks.
Buses are being provided to transport most passengers past the closure.
Amtrak says customers with reservations on trains that are being modified typically will be accommodated on trains with similar departure times or another day.
The company will also waive additional charges for customers looking to change their reservation during the modified schedule if those customers contact the reservation center.
