ST MARIES, Idaho — An air quality caution was issued on Monday and extended through Tuesday for residents of St. Maries, Idaho due to a higher levels of air pollutants.
The Idaho Department of Environmental Quality says the air quality in Benewah County is unhealthy for sensitive groups, but the general public is not likely to be affected.
The department says the caution comes due to a stagnant atmosphere.
A stagnant atmosphere occurs when a mass of air remains over an area for an extended period.
An outdoor open burn ban has also been issued in the county over the next couple of days.
When air quality is unhealthy sensitive groups may experience health effects.
These groups of residents should limit prolonged or heavy exertion, and limit time spent outside.
