SPOKANE COUNTY, Wash. — Homeowners in Spokane will start receiving their home's property valuation notices in the mail this week.
Spokane County assessor, Tom Konis, announced Tuesday that his office will begin mailing out more than 215,900 real property valuation notices on June 1.
The property value assessment informs the owner of the total assessed value, property description, and any exemptions that applied to their property.
The assessed value of the property identified in the notice will be the figure on which 2024 property taxes will be calculated. Assessed values of properties are provided to the 55 taxing districts to assist them in finalizing their levy requests that are turned in by the end of November.
The assessor finalizes property values in December and certifies the levy rates and amounts to the Treasurer’s Office in January.

Property assessments reflect the values as of Jan. 1, 2023. Values are determined by analyzing real estate sales in 855 statistical neighborhoods throughout Spokane County.
“The real estate market for residential properties in our region has slowed from the last couple of years. Commercial properties have seen a mixture of changes with some sectors still struggling coming out of the pandemic while others are thriving. This is especially true for multifamily housing and industrial properties," Konis said.
This year, notices will be in a letter format, which is different than what's been typically sent out by the Assessor's Office in the past. With recent changes in the laws, the old post cards were difficult to read. The assessor hopes that the new format is easier for the taxpayers to read and understand.
