Spokane Airport expands with new terminal, adding 1,200 jobs

The expansion features new seats with outlets at each seat, new ticketing booths and gate pillars that change the name of the city people fly to.

SPOKANE, Wash. — The Spokane International Airport celebrated the grand opening of its C-Concourse expansion.

The new terminal brings state-of-the-art features and expands the airport's gate capacity. The C-Concourse expansion features new seats with outlets at each seat, new ticketing booths and gate pillars that change the name of the city people fly to.

The expansion will add three new gates, six ticketing booths and create nearly 1,200 jobs for the airport. The expansion cost $150 million.

Spokane Airport CEO Larry Krauter said, "I'm really happy that the attention to detail is something I'm probably the most proud of just every single thing."

It couldn't come at a more perfect time for the airport. Last year, the airport saw the most travelers pass through at 4.2 million.

"I think when you look at the expansion, I think the word that comes to mind is opportunity," Krauter said. "We have to have more capacity here in order to take advantage of more opportunities."

The new terminal will also include some new local restaurants, including Zona Blanca, Meltz Extreme and Iron Goat Brewing Company.

"I hope to see for years to come is our ability to continue to expand the airport," Krauter said. "And I think the message that you heard loud and clear today is that the airport really isn't just a place to catch a flight. It's an economic engine for this region."

The first flights out of the new terminal expansion are expected to take place sometime in June. For now, the new terminal will only host Alaskan and American Airlines flights.
