AIRWAY HEIGHTS, Wash. — Amazon announced on Thursday that it will open a new Airway Heights delivery station in 2021, creating hundreds of part and full-time jobs.
The delivery station will be located at 11901 W. McFarlane Road in Airway Heights. All jobs will pay at least $15 per hour and offer a variety of benefits packages, Amazon said in a press release. The facility's opening will also create hundreds of driver opportunities through Amazon’s Delivery Service Partners and Amazon Flex. It's unclear when hiring for the positions will begin but KREM has reached out to an Amazon spokesperson for additional information.
Amazon already employs more than 4,000 people in Spokane at its fulfillment center located off of Geiger Boulevard. Another "non-sort" fulfillment center located at 18007 E. Garland Avenue in Spokane Valley is slated to open in 2021, creating more than 1,000 full-time jobs with a starting wage of $15 per hour.
Amazon has more than 250 delivery stations in the U.S. Packages are shipped to the facilities from neighboring Amazon fulfillment and sorting centers, loaded into delivery vehicles and delivered to customers.
“We are excited that Amazon is expanding its footprint in Spokane County,” Spokane County Commissioner Al French said in the press release. “This new Amazon Delivery Station will bring hundreds of additional jobs, revenue and growth to the County during a critical time when many have experienced job loss due to the pandemic.”
Rep. Mike Volz (R – Spokane) said in the press release that he is grateful for more expansion in the West Plains area.
"Another Amazon facility in Airway Heights will lead to further career opportunities for hundreds of citizens, give our local economy a boost, and serve as an example of what our area has to offer employers of all sizes," Volz said in part.
Amazon has also opened an AMXL delivery station Amazon Hub Locker+ location at 2700 E. Ferry Avenue in Spokane, creating dozens of full and part-time jobs as well as driver opportunities, the company said.
