Spokane gas prices down as active hurricane season looms

Despite the drop, local gas prices are still higher than the national average of $3.49 per gallon.

SPOKANE, Wash. — Drivers can plan on slight savings at the pump as gas prices in the Spokane area dropped to an average of $3.79 per gallon Monday.

Prices in Spokane are 10 cents per gallon lower than in June and 83 cents per gallon lower than July 2023. This comes off the heels of the lowest gas prices on the Fourth of July in three years.

According to GasBuddy, the cheapest gas in Spokane was priced at $3.49 per gallon while the most expensive rang in at $4.09 per gallon.

Despite the 10 cent drop, local gas prices are still higher than the national average of $3.49 per gallon.

As Spokane's gas prices dropped, Idaho's prices stabilized. Even though the average price of gas rose slightly, Idaho's average gas price remained close to the national average at $3.59 per gallon.

Despite the positive trend, the company suggested these lower prices may not be here to stay. Gas Buddy's Head of Petroleum Analysis Patrick De Haan said an active hurricane season could factor into changing gas prices in the weeks ahead.

"For now, we'll likely continue to see some fluctuations in either direction with the national average moving up," De Haan said. "But as we approach August and the peak of hurricane season, there remains a risk that the national average could surge temporarily if we see a major storm in the wrong place."
