SEATTLE — A barbershop in Seattle’s Ballard neighborhood is out thousands of dollars after someone broke into the business and stole most of its equipment early Saturday morning.
Shop owners said this isn't the first time its been broken into.
Video from March 9, shows shards of glass scattered throughout The Singing Barber.
"So we're looking at thousands of dollars' worth of haircutting scissors that were just taken, thousands of dollars' worth of haircutting clippers," said Ashley Schoenberger, a hairstylist at The Singing Barber.
Schoenberger estimates the business lost nearly $12,000 by now having to replace the broken door and the essential tools that keep this local business running.
"Incidents like this stop me from being there for my clients, being there for myself, along with my coworkers," said Schoenberger.
She's one of three barbers at this shop which has been serving the Ballard community for three years. Schoenberger said she loves this community. But she said the latest incident is the second break-in the past year.
"We have a lot of support and people are really lovely, but it takes a toll on you," said Schoenberger.
According to the Seattle Police Department's Crime Dashboard burglaries in Ballard were down slightly last year compared to 2022. But as of Jan. 31 this year, there's already been 41 burglaries. Despite these crimes, Schoenberger said they'll be open for business come Monday.
"You can't stop us from doing what we need to do,” said Schoenberger. “And to continue providing the service that we do. You can't break my spirit. You can steal all my things but it's not going to change what we do."
The business owner said he has filed a police report for the burglary. The Singing Barber has also created an online fundraiser to recoup the losses.
