Low temperatures, weather causing delays in Thor/Freya construction project

City of Spokane spokesperson Kirstin Davis told KREM 2 that the weather is causing delays in the final concrete pouring sections.

SPOKANE, Wash. — The ongoing construction on Thor Street and Freya Street was expected to wrap up by approximately Nov. 25, 2022. However, the cold weather and snow are causing delays.

Construction began on March 28, 2022, and was expected to last approximately six months.

City of Spokane spokesperson Kirstin Davis told KREM 2 that the weather is causing delays in the final concrete pouring sections. The early arrival of low temperatures is making the concrete cure significantly slower.

"Crews are doing everything they can to get it done, like smaller sections and heating equipment," Davis said. "Once the final few sections are cured, then striping will need to be applied for traffic. This is all dependent on weather conditions. The priority is to get the street and I-90 exit ramp open as soon as possible."
