SPOKANE, Wash. — Starting Monday at 7 a.m., road crews will start lane closures along 29th Avenue between Grand Boulevard and Ray Street. These closures, affecting one lane in each direction, will take place all day and span a mile-and-a-half stretch of 29th Avenue. Motorists should anticipate delays and are encouraged to seek alternative routes.
The city administration states that these closures are part of their comprehensive six-year street plan to enhance Spokane's street conditions. Crews will focus on repaving the roads as part of this endeavor. The city anticipates completing the work by August.
Another significant construction project will also commence on Monday. City crews will initiate work on Cheney-Spokane Road, spanning from the 195 interchange to Latah Bistro. The project is set to unfold in three phases, with Monday marking the onset of phase two.
The city has announced plans to install sewer lines in the area to enhance water flow into homes and surrounding businesses. Despite the construction, drivers will retain access to businesses such as Yokes from the 195 interchange.
Regarding Cheney-Spokane Road closures, according to the city's website, one lane of traffic in each direction will remain open during this phase of construction. The entire project is slated for completion by August. But that's not all; another major construction project is underway in Spokane's East Central neighborhood.
The Thor-Freya Corridor Project is currently underway, with phase two kicking off recently. This project aims to revamp roads and improve safety in the Thor-Freya area. The initiative involves a complete reconstruction of multiple intersections, incorporating new roads, sewer systems and wheelchair ramps. Crews have already initiated work at the intersection of 2nd Avenue and Thor.
As of now, the only closure in effect is 2nd Avenue between Freya and Thor, which has been reduced to one lane. However, 3rd Avenue remains open, as does northbound Freya between 5th and Sprague. Westbound I-90 Exit 283-B is closed, with detours expected to remain in place until mid-June.
Spokane city officials urge motorists to exercise caution when navigating construction zones, advising drivers to reduce speed and plan ahead to accommodate potential delays.
