SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. — Construction on Spokane Valley's Pines Road and Mission Avenue intersection is set to begin on Monday, April 15 and is expected to last through this August.
According to Spokane Valley officials, the construction project is meant to increase safety, reduce congestion and improve overall traffic flow.
Crews will be working on the intersection most nights between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. to minimize impacts to drivers. Officials said the second phase of construction is expected to begin around May 17 and will take place during the day between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m.
Improvements to the intersection are as follows:
- A dedicated right-turn lane on southbound Pines Road for motorists turning west onto Mission Avenue
- Two dedicated left-turn lanes on eastbound Mission Avenue directing motorists onto northbound Pine Road
- Re-stripe the intersection to change the thru-left lane on westbound Mission Avenue into a dedicated left-turn lane onto southbound Pines Road
- Modify traffic signal operations to improve traffic flow through the intersection and reduce congestion
- Stormwater dry well installation and catch basin improvements
Officials said drivers should expect lane restrictions, reduced speeds and traffic delays. The intersection will remain open through construction. Businesses and residential areas will also remain open.
