COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho — On Wednesday, construction begins on US-95 in Coeur d'Alene to make the highway wider.
According to the Idaho Transportation Department (ITD), road work will start on April 5, closing access to drivers from Lincoln Way and Walnut Avenue. Work is expected to last four months, with only one lane of traffic in each direction.
ITD says northbound drivers will have access to both Lincoln Way and Walnut Avenue, but southbound drivers will not have access to either street.
Currently, US-95 only has one lane in each direction. Crews will work to remove the median in the center of the intersection. After removal, they will build more through and turn lanes.
“This project will end near the turn-off to go downtown and the Spokane River Bridge,” Project Manager Edward Cabale said. “All of the major intersections in this short section will remain the same, except near Lincoln Way and Walnut Avenue.”
ITD says drivers should plan for extra time on the road.
