SPOKANE, Wash. — The self-proclaimed original buy/sell/trade clothing store is opening in Spokane.
Buffalo Exchange will be located at 407 West Main Avenue and will open its doors on Friday, Aug. 18. The store has been buying, selling and trading clothing and accessories since 1974 in many states across the U.S.
Prior to now, the Buffalo Exchange nearest to Spokane was located 285 miles away in Seattle, but now local residents will be able to shop closer to home.
The store will allow Spokane residents to exchange their clothing for cash or store credit. Shoppers will find a curated selection of everyday styles, contemporary trends, vintage treasures and designer pieces at an affordable price.
"We couldn't be more excited to move into Spokane," said Rebecca Block, the vice president of Buffalo Exchange. "We’re looking forward to being part of the city’s sustainable fashion scene by bringing secondhand shopping to the heart of downtown."
Block said they first fell in love with Spokane when her daughter came here for school.
"When we first found the location on Main Ave, it immediately felt like home — the historic building looks incredibly similar to the first Buffalo Exchange store, which opened in 1974 in Tucson, AZ," Block said. "Spokane's fun and vibrant community is a perfect fit for us."
People looking to clean out their closets for fall can bring their clothes to the store anytime during store opening hours. A team of buyers will take a look at the clothes, and for anything that people are able to purchase, they can choose to take home either 25% of the selling price in cash or 50% in store credit on-the-spot.
People who opt for store credit, can shop that same day or take a trading card for later, which never expires.
Beyond its commitment to recycling clothing, the store is dedicated to environmental sustainability. Instead of single-use plastic bags, the store offers customers 5¢ tokens that go to one of three rotating local nonprofits.
