City of Richland selects Craig Meidl as interim chief of police

The former Spokane Police chief is expected to serve in the interim role for three to six months.

RICHLAND, Wash. — Former Spokane Police Chief Craig Meidl has been selected to serve as an interim police chief for the city of Richland.

According to a statement from officials, Meidl is expected to serve in the interim role for three to six months. This allows city staff time to search for a new, permanent police chief. This news comes several months after Meidl announced his resignation from the Spokane Police Department.

“We are confident that Chief Craig Meidl’s extensive experience, proven leadership, and commitment to community policing will serve the City of Richland exceptionally well during this transitional period,” City Manager Jon Amundson said.

Meidl's service in Richland begins on April 15.
