PULLMAN, Wash. — Cougs are gearing up to celebrate one of Pullman's most iconic figures.
Former Pullman Mayor and voice of Cougar athletics Glenn Johnson will be turning 80 years old, and WSU will be hosting a reception to acknowledge his contributions and legacy in the city of Pullman.
The celebration will be held on Saturday, April 13 from 1 p.m.- 4 p.m. at the Great Hall in the Lewis Alumni Centre on the Washington State University campus.
Johnson served as the mayor of Pullman for 20 years. On top of that, he also worked as a professor at Washington State University's Edward R. Murrow College of Communications. For 35 years, he taught courses in television news, communications management and other subjects.
Johnson has worked as the school's public address announcer for football and basketball games since 1980. While he will be stepping down as mayor, Johnson said he will continue to work as the "Voice of the Cougs" at WSU.
