Spokane BRRC hosting Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving Day

The annual Turkey Trot race will take place at Manito Park on Thursday, Nov. 28 at 9 a.m.

SPOKANE, Wash. — Although many places are closed for Thanksgiving and most people will be celebrating with family, there are a few community events that people can attend to get out of the house and enjoy.

One of the most anticipated events around the country for Thanksgiving is turkey trot races.

In Spokane, the Bloomsday Race Runners Club (BRRC) will host its annual local Turkey Trot on Thursday, Nov. 28 at 9 a.m.

The race will take place at the Manito Park Duck Pond. BRRC will require people to make a $20 donation to Second Harvest Inland Northwest in order to participate in the race.

Donations and registration can be completed online or participants can bring cash or food donations to the park on Thursday to register.

BRRC encourages wearing comfortable shoes and warm clothes for the race and recommends that people carpool to Manito Park as parking is limited.

BRRC will also be drawing a prize winner at 10 a.m. from those registered to participate in the race.

Another local event is the Salvation Army's free Thanksgiving meal.

The Salvation Army will serve a free Thanksgiving Day meal on Thursday, Nov. 28 from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. at The Salvation Army building in Spokane.

The holiday meal will include a traditional hot, delicious turkey meal with the trimmings and is being offered to local homeless individuals, people with no family to join and families that may not be able to afford a meal.

Community members can also donate to the Salvation Army to support the meal online. People can also mail checks to the Salvation Army Spokane or deliver donations in-person Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
