SPOKANE, Wash. — We are just one day away from Thanksgiving Day.

It's a time for people to give thanks while also doing quite a bit of grocery shopping.

Wednesday night was busy at the Lincoln Heights Rosauers as folks got ready for some last-minute holiday shopping.

It can be a stressful time of the year for grocers, and their customers are stalking up.

"You know in the locker room before a big sports game, they kind of psych themselves up? That's essentially what I do," Katelyn Haplin said.

That's the mindset Assistant Store Manager of Rosauers Brandon Powell expects every year, saying this week's sales are 150% higher than any normal one.

"This is the busiest week of the year for food sales," Powell said. "I think we do more sales for Thanksgiving than Christmas."

He said each year, the store is prepared, stalking up on Thanksgiving staples like turkey, gravy and desserts. But Powell said waiting until the last minute poses risks.

"We're not always guaranteed those items, and so we could potentially be shorted on some products, say, pumpkin pie," Powell said. "If we get shorted on pumpkin pie, we don't have it today, people are going to miss out."

As more people come and go for a few items or more, Powell advises any last-minute shoppers to proceed with caution so folks can enjoy the holiday.

"I would say, get your turkey right away," Powell said.

"It's just like all the best parts of Christmas without having to buy stuff," Haplin said.
