COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho — Already getting ready for the Christmas season? Lucky for you, starting today, October 21, you can buy your permit to cut your own Christmas tree this holiday season.

The Idaho Panhandle National Forests (IPNF) said people can now purchase their Christmas tree-cutting permits either over the counter at ranger stations or online.

IPNF said the five-dollar permit allows for the holder to cut one tree 12 feet or less, leaving a maximum six-inch-tall stump.

Each person can buy a maximum of three permits per season.

Fourth graders with an Every Kid Outdoors pass are eligible for a free Christmas tree permit. When buying a permit, they can apply by entering the pass or voucher number. There will be a $2.50 reservation fee that will be applied.

To buy your permit online and to learn more about buying a permit to cut your Christmas tree, go to Recreation.gov.
