What Halloween events are happening near Spokane?

Eastern Washington and North Idaho have an array of Halloween events with everything from haunted houses, trunk-or-treating and spooky shows.

SPOKANE, Wash. — Halloween is just around the corner and the Inland Northwest has been preparing in big ways. 

All kinds of shows, haunted houses, theme parks and events will be open for people to get into the Halloween spirit. 

Here is a list of a few events around Eastern Washington and North Idaho.

Haunted Houses & Tours 

  • Silverwood Theme Park in Athol, Idaho reworks the theme park every Halloween season into the local fan favorite: Scarywood. 
    • The usually jolly streets of Silverwood are swarmed with scarers, themed into 10 different zones, who wander through the park, in the open and hiding in the dark waiting for the perfect moment to make you jump. 
    • Scarywood also boasts five haunted houses: Blood Bayou, Chuckle's 3D Sideshow, Pharoah's Curse, Planet Zombie: Lights Out and The Swine. 
    • Tickets are limited and can only be bought online. Scarywood hours are from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. on Thursdays and 7 p.m. to 12 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. 
    • Scarywood is not recommended for children under the age of 13.

  • The Haunt on the Boardwalk is a haunted house in Nine Mile Falls put on by Fear in the Headlights. The attraction features popular Halloween figures like Jason, Freddy Krueger, Michael Myers, clowns and more.

  • The Crystal Gold Mine in Kellogg, Idaho will be hosting haunted mine tours from Oct. 25 through 31 from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. each day. 
    • In this walk-through experience, former miners turned into a twisted combination of miners and monsters will wander the abandoned mine shaft tunnels.
    • The tours are free and do not require reservations. Those interested can pre-register for priority access by calling the mine at (208) 783-4653. More information can be found on the Haunted Mine Tour Facebook event page.

  • The Spokane Public Library has assembled a walking tour list and map of spooky spots that includes various haunted buildings, graveyards and mansions in the downtown area. 
  • The Friends of Coeur d'Alene Park will host its annual SpookWalk on Oct. 25, 26 and 27 with two tours each night, the first at 6:30 p.m. and the second at 7 p.m. 
    • The walk takes people on a one-mile path around the Browne's Addition historic district with a guide to tell stories of ghosts who may still watch from the windows of old mansions.
    • Tickets and reservations are required. Tickets are $25 per person and can be found here. Guides recommend that people bring a flashlight and ask that no children under 5 join the tour. Additionally, for safety reasons, strollers, pets, walkers and wheelchairs are not allowed. 
  • Mica Moon Zip Tours will host a Haunted Zip Line Tour during October weekends. 
    • Guests will begin their 3-hour long tour with an ATV ride up the Moonshine Trail to the Dark Canyon section of Mica Moon and continue onto several zip lines through the pitch-black night and above the trees. 
    • There will be two tours on Fridays and three on Saturdays until the end of October. Only 10 guests can go on each tour and tickets are $99 per person. The tour is restricted to ages 16 and older.

Shows and Festivals

There are a variety of performances, festivals and movie showings that will help get you in the Halloween mood. 

  • Coeur d'Alene Shakespeare company will perform several shows of Shakespeare's spooky drama, Macbeth. 
    • The shows will take place at the Kroc Center on the weekend of Oct. 17 through Oct. 19 and the weekend of Oct. 24 through Oct. 26 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $30 for adults and $25 for students, military personnel and seniors and can be found at the Shakespeare Coeur d'Alene website.

  • The Garland Theater in Spokane will be showing classic horror movies all month leading up to Halloween with several options for free admission for Movie Club members and other community members. 
    • On Tuesday, Oct. 22, the Garland will host an interactive showing of Disney's Hocus Pocus in collaboration with the Spokane Regional Domestic Violence Coalition. Costumes are encouraged and movie-goers can purchase kits complete with glitter, magic wands and more to play along with the movie. All ticket sales will be donated to SRDVC to help those impacted by domestic violence. 
    • On Saturday, Oct. 26, the theater will host its first Splatter Fest. People can purchase a day pass to see four classic horror movies back-to-back and enter to win a Halloween mask and a $25 gift card to Halloween Express.

  • On Saturday, Oct. 19 Page 42 Bookstore and On the Level Tattoo will host the Haunted Handmade Vendor Market from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. 
    • The market will boast dozens of local vendors selling Halloween-themed handmade goods. 
  • The Nuestras Raíces Centro Comunitario will host its tenth annual Día de Los Muertos celebration after Halloween, on Saturday, Nov. 2 from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. 
    • The festival will feature various activities and performances as well as local food and art vendors.

  • The Knitting Factory will host an all-ages Halloween Ball on Sunday, Oct. 20 at 5:30 p.m. At 8:30 p.m., the event will become exclusive to ages 16 and up as performances will become more graphic.
    • Music from all your favorite classic Halloween movies will be played along with dressed-up characters who will dance, sing and scare throughout the night. 
    • There will also be a trick-or-treat section after the performances where party-goers can meet the characters and take pictures. 
    • Tickets to the Halloween Ball are $20 and can be found at the Knitting Factory website. 

Trunk or Treating

  • The Ruby River Hotel will host a trunk-or-treating event on Sunday, Oct. 20 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. 
    • Community members are encouraged to showcase their dressed-up vehicles and enjoy treats, prizes and costumes. 
  • On Saturday, Oct. 26, the Southside Christian Church, Goodwill and the Pharoah's Car Club will host the South Hill Community Trunk or Treat. 
  • The NATIVE Project Clinic will host a trunk-or-treating event on Tuesday, Oct. 29 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the clinic parking lot. 
  • Several other organizations will host trunk-or-treating events, including but not limited to the American Indian Community Center, the Liberty Baptist Church and North Point Village.
