SPOKANE, Wash. — Important news: Chik-fil-A may be coming to Spokane after all.
We know what you’re thinking: KREM, don’t you remember the time that the Chick-fil-A website mistakenly listed Gonzaga University as a future location?
Yes, we do remember. We remember it all too well.
The restaurant’s website listed a location at GU as “coming soon" in August 2018. This was a mistake that the company blamed on an online error.
The school was caught off guard by the news and students were heartbroken when they heard it was untrue.
Fortunately, fried chicken fans may be in luck, as documents filed with the state Environmental Protection Agency point to a possible location in North Spokane.
Chick-fil-A released a statement Tuesday saying, "We are always evaluating potential new locations in the hopes of serving existing and new customers great food with remarkable service. While we hope to serve the Spokane, Washington, community in the future, we do not currently have any locations to confirm."
To reiterate: this is not definitive proof that Chick-fil-A is coming to the Lilac City but all signs point to a definite maybe.
The application shows a 4,833 square-foot store at 9304 N. Newport. In the plans, Chick-fil-A Inc. is listed as the name of the proposed project and applicant.
Comments on the application opened earlier this month and are due by June 21.
According to notes on the application, plans will be submitted in July. The company hopes to break ground as soon as the plan check is complete, which could be as early as this summer.
A spokesperson for the City of Spokane says the city and Department of Ecology are reviewing the application. Chick-fil-A has not yet submitted an application for a building permit.
There are 11 Chick-fil-A locations throughout western Washington.
