EATONVILLE, Wash — A Pierce County wildlife park has welcomed two raccoon kits that were rescued in Tennessee.
Northwest Trek Wildlife Park, located in Eatonville, now features Hickory and Bluebell, five-month-old raccoon siblings. The two kits were found orphaned during routine tree work at the Memphis Zoo and rescued, Northwest Trek said in a release.
“These two are incredibly inquisitive,” Miranda, the keeper at Northwest Trek, said. “They’re always investigating and handling everything they find, but after their busy antics, they’re quick to crash for a nap.”
Northwest Trek was granted permission to take in the raccoon kits and hand-raise them by the Tennessee Wildlife Resource Agency. The kits arrived in August and have been getting settled at Northwest Trek behind the scenes.
“We’re thrilled for our visitors to see these two grow up here,” Miranda added. “They offer a wonderful opportunity to learn about living with backyard wildlife.”
