SPOKANE, Wash. – SCRAPS is caring for an abused dog with cuts and injures all over his body.
Staff at SCRAPS said Owin was found sitting beside a pocket knife in a wire crate in February. The dog did not want to let anyone near him.
Owin's wounds were not caused by another animal but cannot conclude that the pocket knife was the cause of his wounds, according to SCRAPS staff.
Owin was taken directly into surgery and is on the path to physical recovery thanks to the help of Valley Veterinary Clinic and the SCRAPS Hope Foundation, according to a Facebook post. He needed stitches and staples to close the wounds.
SCRAPS said its behavior team is working closely with Owin, as he remains terrified of people.
KREM photographer Brett Allbery visited Owin on Wednesday and said he has "made tremendous progress and was bouncing all over the place."
According to the Facebook post, staff named the dog Owin because it stands for “young and fearless fighter.”
SCRAPS is looking for anyone affiliated with a rescue group that may have room for the dog, allowing him to continue his recovery outside of the shelter. Those who are interested can email SCRAPSRescue@spokanecounty.org.
Those who want to help Owin from afar can also donate to the SCRAPS Hope Foundation on his behalf.
