Spokane man builds massive snowman in his front yard

Jason Stratton, who lives near Deaconess Hospital, said the snowman towering nearly 16 feet tall attracts visitors in the community.

SPOKANE, Wash. — A massive snowman in a Spokane man's front yard is attracting many visitors in the community.

Jason Stratton, who lives near Deaconess Hospital, said the snowman is somewhere between 12 and 13 feet tall with about 3 more feet added by a top hat. He affectionately called his creation “Snowmanageddon."

Stratton said he was the sole person building the snowman with his wife by his side for “moral support.” The process took 12 hours over three nights using a snowblower and another four hours to sculpt it with a shovel.

Stratton said the snowman’s eyes are made of bricks and its arms are five feet long. He will accessorize the creation with a 20-foot-long red scarf this weekend.

Stratton said the idea came to him many years ago when he and his wife drove by a giant snowman sitting in a Michigan farmer's field.

“I promised myself that I would someday build the largest snowman I could. With our recent storms I was snow blowing our driveway like normal and as I looked over into my front yard, I saw this mound of snow mounting and I flashed back to that giant northern Michigan snowman. Well, that’s when the construction began,” he said.

Many neighbors have told Stratton that "Snowmanageddon" is the largest snowman they have seen in Spokane. Community members frequently stop by to visit the or snap selfies since its construction.
