SPOKANE, Wash. — A Spokane Native is receiving accolades for his performance in a musical that nabbed eight trophies at the Tony Awards of Sunday.
“Hadestown,” a brooding Broadway musical about the underworld took home the awards for Best Musical and Best Director, among others.
The folk-opera intertwines the myths of Orpheus and Eurydice, and Hades and Persephone.
The show also took home awards for Best Original Score (Music and/or Lyrics), Best Performance by an Actor in a Featured Role in a Musical, Best Scenic and Lighting Design, Best Sound Design and Best Orchestrations.
It received 14 total nominations.
Actor Patrick Page, who was born in Spokane on April 27, 1962, stars as Hades in the musical. He received a nod for Best Performance by an Actor in a Featured Role at the Tony Awards.
Page’s costar Andre De Shields, 73, ultimately took home the award in that category for his performance as Hermes in “Hadestown.”

Page has been with the show since its acclaimed 2016 Off-Broadway run at New York Theatre Workshop, according to Playbill.
“For me, it’s been about clarifying what Hades wants at every single moment,” Page told Paybill this month.
Page’s other credits include “Spring Awakening,” “A Man for All Seasons,” “The Lion King,” “How the Grinch Stole Christmas!,” and “A Christmas Carol.”
He also starred in TV shows “Elementary" and “Madame Secretary” on CBS, along with a guest appearance on “The Good Wife.”
Page is married to Paige Davis, who is best known as the host of TLC home improvement show “Trading Spaces.”
Davis posted a sweet message of support for her husband on Instagram ahead of the Tony Awards.
“He is uniquely versatile and is voracious in his hunger. I have not met his match when it comes to research and dedication to his roles or his projects,” Davis wrote in part. “For the first time in his career he is nominated for a Tony Award. No one is more proud than me.”
“I am honored and very lucky to be the one by his side this Sunday. I will be beaming for my man who deserves this recognition so much,” she continued.
Davis’ support for her husband goes beyond that single Instagram post. Her bio on the social media site reads, “Wife to actor extraordinaire Patrick Page.”
