SPOKANE, Wash. — If you are in search for the perfect free Halloween activity this weekend look no further than Spokane!
A homemade haunted maze is bringing the gore to North Spokane, but it’s all so you can scream for a cause. The creator of the haunted maze, Shawon Demoss, is asking for food, clothes, and toys as a donation in exchange for a run through the terrifying maze.
“I have needed help so I feel like this is the easiest way I can give back,” Demoss said.
He has a lot of help and support from local group 509 Bomb Squad. Demoss has done this before in Cheney, where only 1,200 visitors made it through the maze, but the donations made a huge impact.
“We got to do a lot from that. We did 250 pounds for Blessing Under the Bridge. I invited families to not be judged," Demoss said. "You can go in free without a donation. We don’t expect anything from anybody. This is just the kindness out of people’s own heart.”
Already, almost 1,000 visitors have experienced the maze during the opening weekend. Demoss said last weekend almost surpassed all of last year in terms of donations.
Last year, they also sponsored 18 families in need with food and gifts for the holidays.
Demoss said he can’t wait to see what the donations can do this year.
The maze is located at 5903 N. Post St., Spokane and is open from 6-10 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 6 to 9 p.m. on Sunday.
