AIRWAY HEIGHTS, Wash. — A two-story recreation center is now open in Airway Heights.
Voters approved the facility on West Deno Road in 2016 after several failed attempts to create a multi-purpose community center in the city.
In a 2014 survey, the recreation center earned an 88 percent approval rating from those who somewhat or strongly supported it.
The Airway Heights Recreation Center features community rooms, fitness and recreation centers, and a seven-acre sports complex.
The facility’s sports complex includes a softball field, basketball court and picnic shelter.
Many residents are most excited about the aquatics facility, which features a lap pool, warm water therapy pool, hot tub, a lazy river with a whirlpool and a spray-and-play area for children.
On Thursday, the recreation center announced that its pool is open and ready for swim lessons, which range from $24 to $30 per session.
The recreation center is open from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday and 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Sunday.
Membership rates and more information about the facility can be found online.
