'I want to rock it on that stage': East Valley HS students get to sing with Foreigner

The students have been practicing for about six months for the once in a lifetime opportunity.

SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. — Students at East Valley High School will sing with the 1980s rock band Foreigner Wednesday at the Spokane Interstate Fair.

Decades ago, Foreigner was one of the biggest bands in the world. Imagine getting the great opportunity to perform with them while still in high school. The students have been practicing for about six months for the once in a lifetime opportunity.

"I'm sure it's just going to be one of those moments that you're going to remember for the rest of your life," said choir student, Tory Watkins.

They'll be singing with a group that was around before they were born. The students said they were born ready. They've also gotten some experience singing with country singer Eric Church and at Carnegie Hall. This performance seems to bring another form of excitement.

"I think we're pretty prepared. I want to rock it on that stage and have the greatest time possible with one of the greatest 80s rock bands ever," Watkins said.

The students will be singing the chorus of the song “I Want to Know What Love is" with the band. It may be a small part, but there's some big anticipation for this performance.

"This will be one of the memories that kids will remember for their entire life," said choir teacher Andrea LaPlante.

Watkins said she’s a huge fan of the band. She said she’s been signing their songs for a while, but this performance makes it feel like the very first time.

"Singing with Foreigner is going to be so rad, and I just can't wait," Watkins said.
