SPOKANE, Wash. — Free movies will return to Riverfront Park this summer.
Spokane Parks and Recreation announced on Wednesday that the outdoor summer movie series will bring a mix of eight family-friendly films, cult classics and movies for those ages 18 and older beginning on June 12.
The lineup begins with the 1993 romantic comedy "Benny & Joon," which was filmed at iconic Spokane diner Ferguson's Cafe. The Milk Bottle next door was also used as an exterior.
The full movie lineup includes:
June 12: Benny & Joon (PG)
June 19: Zootopia (PG)
July 10: Back to the Future (PG)
July 17: The Big Lewbowski (R)
July 24: Ralph Breaks the Internet (PG)
August 7: Wizard of Oz (G)
August 14: Space Balls (PG)
August 21: Toy Story (PG)
Movies begin at 8:30 p.m.
Guests are encouraged to pack a snack or dinner, but alcohol is not allowed. Picnic blankets and low-sitting lawn chairs are also welcome.
In mid-April, the parks department said it would not show outdoor movies in Riverfront Park during the summer of 2019. A reason was not provided.
The return of outdoor movies to the park this year is sponsored by credit union WSECU, FunFlicks, Lime and iHeart Media Spokane.
