SPOKANE, Wash. — The Spokane Humane Society (SHS) and PetSmart Charities will host events every day of National Adoption Week, beginning Monday, Oct. 21.
“PetSmart Charities National Adoption Week can be the perfect chance to give a pet in need what they need most – people to love,” said Heidi Marston, the director of pet placement at PetSmart Charities.
All events will take place at the Northpointe PetSmart at 9950 North Newport Highway.
Here is a rundown of the events on each day:
Monday, Oct. 21 is "Change my luck" day
- All animals who are considered "long-term residents" can be adopted the entire week of National Adoption Week. Animals qualify as long-term if they have been with SHS for more than 90 days.
Tuesday, Oct. 22 is "Trick-or-treat Tuesday"
- Free treats will be in the Everyday Adoption Center. Plus, Halloween costumes will be available for purchase!
Wednesday, Oct. 23 is "Win a Spin for Swag" day
- Customers can spin a wheel for a chance to win free SHS swag and learn about SHS' history. SHS has been serving homeless animals in Spokane for more than 127 years.
Thursday, Oct. 24 is "Home free for Seniors" day
- There will be no adoption fee for senior animals on Thursday. Animals older than 6 are considered seniors but still have plenty of life and love to give.
Friday, Oct. 25 is "PetSmart K9 Training Demo" day
- PetSmart trainers will be putting on K9 training demos throughout the day and the New Hope SHS van will be in front of the PetSmart with more adoptable animals.
Saturday, Oct. 26 is "Adorable Adoptees" day
- Saturday will be the main event day, complete with tours of the SHS van, information about foster and volunteer opportunities, giveaways and discounted adoptions for all animals. All adoption fees will be 25% off and free for long-term animals.
Sunday, Oct. 27 is "$0 adoption fee" day
- Sunday will close out the week of adoption events with $0 adoption fees for all animals more than 7 months old. This will be the last day for all the National Adoption Week deals, but certainly not the last day that people can adopt!
