SPOKANE, Wash. — To celebrate Native American Heritage Month, the Spokane Tribe Resort and Casino will be hosting the Native American Comedy Jam.

The evening of laughs will feature four of the top comedians in the Native American world on November 8 at Spokane Live at the Spokane Tribe Casino.

Mylo Smith, Vaughn Eaglebear, Marc Yaffee and Howie Miller will all take the stage and bring their reflections on their lives. Their stories and jokes will all blend the unique reality of living in one heritage while still being a part of a greater society.

In a press release, Charlie Hill, Native American comedian and historian, says that Natives pride themselves in laughing even amid tough times. He reflects that Natives believe laughter is spiritual healing because laughter is the language of God.

Howie Miller is a First Nation Descendant of the Cree Nation and was born and raised in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. His show goes through all the politically correct terms for Native Americans before he lands on his favorite term, “Caucaisionally Impaired.”

Vaughn Eaglebear is of the Lakota Sioux Colville Indians, based in Spokane. Eaglebear is nicknamed “The Frybread Assassin” and laments in his show about taking a Native American History class in college and only getting a ‘C.’ Vaughn will also perform some of his famous songs like “John Wayne’s Teeth.”

Finally, Marc Yaffee will tell the audience that he has a Jewish father and a Native mother, joking that this makes him a ‘Bargin-hunter-gatherer.’

Tickets start at $25 and can be found at the Spokane Tribe Resort and Casino website. Guests under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult, but are welcome at the show.
