SPOKANE, Wash. — Whitworth University is set to host “Defending Democracy: A Conversation with Liz Cheney” on April 23, 2025 from 7 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. at the Spokane Convention Center. The date was rescheduled after the event was originally scheduled for October 9.

According to a press release from the university, the talk will cover topics such as leadership, diplomacy and the future of politics in America.

Those interested in attending must register before the event. Tickets begin are $90 per person or $900 per table which includes 10 seats. Breakfast is included in the event.

The university says tickets from the postponed event that was scheduled for Oct. 9 will be honored.

“Given her proximity to all things Washington D.C.-related, Liz Cheney possesses an especially uncommon insider’s perspective," said Whitworth President Scott McQuilkin. “Hers will be a very informative visit to Whitworth and to the Inland Northwest.”

Cheney served as the U.S. representative for Wyoming’s at-large congressional district from 2017 to 2023. She chaired the House Republican Conference, the third highest position in the House Republican leadership, from 2019 to 2021 and served as the vice chair of the Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th Attack on the United States Capitol.

During her time in Congress, she was also a member of the House Armed Services Committee, China Task Force, Natural Resources Committee and House Committee on Rules.

In 2022, Cheney received the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library’s prestigious Profile in Courage Award, with a commendation for her “consistent and courageous voice in defense of democracy.”
