SPOKANE, Wash. — Hoopfest is right around the corner which means players are getting their bodies ready to play. To avoid injuries, you are urged to get nice and loose by stretching before playing.
However, if you do get injured when making your run at the Hoopfest championship, plenty of trained medical professionals will help you out.
MultiCare says they will have several tents set up downtown with equipment like portable x-ray machines on site. There will also be ice tubs set up to help cool down anyone who may be experiencing symptoms of overheating.
Both players and spectators will have access to the care in these tents if needed.
Medical Director of Hoopfest, Dr Nicholas Strasser said, “What they can expect is to see a large group of folks with a diverse background and skill sets. Both physicians, advanced practiced providers, RNs, you name it we’ll have them down there.”
To combat some of the injury issues, Dr. Strasser says that stretching can go a long way. He added to arrive early, use the outdoor courts, check the weather and hydrate before you start playing. He continued saying that simple measures like those can be the difference between a trip to one of their medical tents or just a fun weekend of playing basketball.
