SPOKANE, Wash. — The Spokane Riverkeeper is hosting an Expo 70 River Cleanup on Saturday, June 8 at 10 a.m.
The River Cleanup is happening at the U-District in Spokane as part of efforts to protect and preserve the Spokane River and nearby areas.
The Spokane Riverkeeper says supplies will be provided, and volunteers are encouraged to dress appropriately for work outside. Everyone is invited to participate in helping remove litter and debris from the riverbanks.
There will be 120 missionaries from the The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints helping with the cleanup.
"We are excited to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Expo ‘74 by giving back to our community and the environment," said Jule Schultz, Spokane Riverkeeper. "This event provides an opportunity for people to come together, make a positive impact, and show their commitment to protecting our river, much like the community did for the World’s Fair in 1974."
