SPOKANE, Wash. — The city of Spokane is preparing for its 50th celebration of the infamous world fair held in Spokane in 1974. Now, event organizers are giving community members a chance to get more involved.
The team behind the upcoming two-month long celebration is launching Club '74, a group of supporters who are instrumental in making the 50th celebration of Expo '74 happen. With a $74 donation, club members will be instrumental in supporting the event and will have access to select Club '74 content and events, according to Spokane Parks and Recreation.
Expo '74 attracted more than 5.2 million people to what is now Riverfront Park between May-November 1974, making Spokane the smallest city to ever host a World's Fair. The exposition revitalized the downtown district and made Riverfront Park into what it is now.
Fifty years later, the city will again host a nine-week celebration commemorating the world fair, and event organizers want the community to get involved.
The team behind the 50th celebration is launching Club '74. Anyone can join with a donation of $74, which event organizers said will make them a central part of "supporting the free, family-friendly activities and programs" that will happen during the celebration.
Expo '74's 50th Celebration will take place from May 4-July 4, 2024.
