'Dreamin' Wild' makes TIME's Top 10 Movies of 2023 list

The film was shot in Spokane and tells the story of an album created by two teenage brothers in Fruitland, Washington.

SPOKANE, Wash. — TIME Magazine has ranked "Dreamin' Wild" ninth in its Top 10 Best Movies of 2023 list.

The movie, starring Zooey Deschanel and Casey Affleck, began filming in Spokane in 2021. It follows the true story of musical duo Donnie and Joe Emerson, whose family leveraged their farm in the 1970s in order to produce the brothers’ record, "Dreamin’ Wild." The album was unearthed and discovered decades later in 2010s, becoming an underground hit in the process.

The film hit theaters Aug. 4, 2023 and in a previous interview with KREM 2, Joe Emerson shared that the movie is about more than just music.

"It’s about the music in that album, Donnie and I that many years back, but it does resonate as a family,” Emerson said. “I hope they come away with it’s important to stay connected to family even though you might have ups and downs and disagreements.”

"'Dreamin' Wild" is available for purchase on Amazon Prime,  Apple TV and other streaming services.
