Garland Theater announces Benny and Joon as first movie since reopening

In a post on the Garland Theater Facebook page, it was announced the theater will reopen its doors on March 1 with a showing of Benny and Joon.

SPOKANE, Wash. — It’s official. After months of being closed for upgrades and renovations, the Garland Theater has an official reopening date.

In a post on the Garland Theater Facebook page, it was announced the theater will reopen its doors on March 1 with a showing of Benny and Joon.

The doors to the theater will open at 6:30 p.m. with the movie starting at 7:30 p.m.

The post said their website is still under construction so there is no way to buy tickets yet. When they go on sale, they will cost $5. The theater said they will announce when tickets are for sale in the next couple weeks.

Last month, KREM 2 reported that Chris Bovey of Vintage Print and Tyler Arnold of Jedi Alliance Arcade are taking over day-to-day operations. They recently spoke with KREM 2 about the future of Garland and how they plan on using a GoFundMe account started last year.

"We want people to come back in and immediately tell where they contributions they made went and they're going to see it, I promise that," Bovey said.  "They will come in here and be like 'that was not there before, that was not there before,' and it's going to be a whole experience, not just come here to see a movie. They're going to come here to see a movie museum in a vintage theater."

The Garland will also be switching nonprofit status, which will allow easier access to grants and sponsorships. The new managers are planning to keep prices cheap and even bring back "Dollar Movie Night."

Let’s do this Spokane!!! Website is still under construction so no way to buy tickets just yet. But we will announce...
