Below average temperatures expected for the first half of August

The next 10 days show below average temperatures through about the middle of the month.

SPOKANE, Wash. -- Well we didn't quite break into the triple digits in Spokane Tuesday, but we did hit 97 degrees, the hottest temp so far in 2018.

A cooling trend starts Wednesday. The next 10 days show below average temperatures through about the middle of the month. Below average temperatures still mean 80s and even 90s in some areas.

Remember, at this time in 2016 we were cruising into the longest streak of 90-degree temperatures, ending at 15 days straight.

The daily afternoon high for the month of August averages at 88 degrees. Beyond the middle of the month, long term outlooks show that the second half of August could bring more above average temperatures. While these might be the peak conditions for getting outside, the month of August is also known for having poor air quality because of wildfire season. There is always the chance that air quality in August will decline, but it is largely dependent on our area wildfires which can change at a moments notice.

We are also continuing to lose daylight into the month of August. By the end of the month, we will have lost an additional hour and eight minutes of daylight compared to what we are seeing today.
