Spokane Indians win crucial division game against Everett AquaSox

The winner of the division through the first half of the season gets a playoff spot. With six games to go, the Indians are now up two games on Everett after the win.

SPOKANE, Wash. — The Spokane Indians are now in the driver seat of the Northwest League North division standings thanks to a 5-4 win over the Everett AquaSox on Tuesday night.

The Indians scored four runs in the second inning to get an early 4-0. Right fielder Luis Asuncion hit a solo home run over the left field wall in the 6th inning to make is 5-0.

The pitching was overall solid through the first seven innings of the game, but the Indians had difficulties in the eighth inning. They let up four runs and it was a tight 5-4 game going into the ninth.

However, the Indians were able to close it out. 

The importance of this is the winner of the division through the first half of the season gets a playoff spot. With six games to go, the Indians are now up two games on Everett after the win.

The Indians will play the next three games at home against the Vancouver Canadians starting on Wednesday. The Canadians have the worst division record.

After that, the Indians have three more games against Everett again on the road starting on July 20.

Everett will have to play the Tri-City Dust Devils on the road next. The Dust Devils are second in the division.

The Indians have an easier path to clinch a playoff spot.
