Mt. Spokane HS Sam Spears

MEAD, Wash. -- Sam Spears is a senior at Mt. Spokane High school. He is one of the co-captains of the football team .

Sam has been playing football since he was in kindergarten, and since that day he has had many accomplishments like beating Mead High School three years in a row. His biggest accomplishment, he said, was being voted as team co-team captain during his senior year at Mt. Spokane.

Another question we asked was why does he play football. He said “I play because as a team we are able to learn life skills and integrity."

We asked him what his worst injury was and he said it was a sprained MCL which surprised us since he has been playing football for more than a decade. When we asked him who inspires him he answered almost right after the words came out of our mouths, his answer was his father.

He said his father because ever since he could remember his father was the one that taught him to play and got him to start playing. His father enjoyed football and always dreamed that his son would play football one day and that dream has come true in a very big way by Sam becoming the captain of the football team.

You know how NBA superstar Steph Curry always does his two-ball dribbling before all of his games, or when Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson goes out to the field four hours before the game starts to prepare? How about when New York Giants receiver Odell Beckham Jr. warms up with all those one handed catches in the endzone? Well Sam’s pre-game ritual is the Husker Prayer.

Sam is a 4.00 GPA student and when he is not playing football he loves to play golf. Sam has been a diehard fan of the Seahawks ever since he could remember. Sam is a very likable person due to his down to earth mentality and the affection he shows to everyone he meets.
