SPOKANE COUNTY, Wash. -- One person died in a crash involving a dump truck and passenger car near Newman Lake Wednesday morning.
A 16-year-old girl was driving northbound on McKinzie Road at a stop sign at Highway 290 around 7:00 a.m. A dump truck driver was headed eastbound on Highway 290. Officials said the 16-year-old failed to yield and pulled into the truck driver's path. The two vehicle collided at the intersection.
The 16-year-old girl was pronounced dead at the scene. Her passenger, a 19-year-old woman, was transported by Life Flight to Sacred Heart.
Highway 290 at McKinzie Road reopened around 10:55 a.m. The area is one mile west of Newman Lake.
