Crews plan to remove power pole after paving mishap in Spokane Valley

The intersection historically has a lot of crashes, so Spokane Valley is working to cut down on them by better aligning the road.

SPOKANE, Wash. — A photo of a newly paved road in Spokane Valley with a power pole in the middle is making rounds on Facebook.

The photo was sent to KREM by a viewer. Spokane Valley officials said it won't be there for long.

It’s located at South Carnahan Road and East 8th Avenue near the bottom of the South Hill. The intersection historically has a lot of crashes, so Spokane Valley is working to cut down on them by better aligning the road.

With winter just a few weeks away, they wanted to get the paving done, even if that meant going around a utility pole. Officials said they are waiting on one more company to move their wires from the pole in the road to the one next to it in the grass.

City leaders said they'll likely do that on Wednesday or Thursday removing the pole at the same time.

Spokane Valley leaders said they'll fill the hole as soon as the pole is gone.
