NEWPORT, Wash. – A 7.5-acre fire shut down part of Highway 2 three miles south of Newport Friday evening.
Officials said around 7:20 p.m., a detour was in place at Calispel/1st Street to Deer Valley in Newport and South Shore to Coyote Trail at Diamond Lake.
Officials said forward movement of the fire has stopped and no buildings were in danger.
It is unclear when the roadway will reopen.
