KCSO: Fatal Hayden Lake crash was caused by drinking and driving

Christopher Lancaster's blood alcohol level was nearly twice the legal limit.

HAYDEN, Idaho -- The Kootenai County Sheriff's Office said a man who died after crashing into Hayden Lake was drinking and driving.

Christopher Lancaster crashed at the lake's Honeysuckle Boat Launch. The passenger in the vehicle, Andrea Berkey, survived. Lancaster was later pronounced dead at Kootenai Health.

The sheriff's office and Kootenai County Coroner's Office said Lancaster's blood alcohol level was .144, nearly twice the legal limit.

After reviewing video evidence from the crash site and a bar Lancaster drove away from prior to the crash, officials have ruled Lancaster died by drowning after drinking and driving.
