Hottest temperatures of the year hit Inland Northwest on Tuesday

Temperatures around the INW will soar to the triple digits amid an Excessive Heat Warning, Heat Advisory, Red Flag Warning, and Fire Weather Watch all in effect Tuesday.

SPOKANE, Wash. -- The trend of warming temperatures continues into Tuesday as temperatures are expected to reach their peak of 2018, with a majority of cities forecast to hit 100 or higher.

If Spokane does reach the 100 degree mark, it will be first time since August 13, 2015. Central Washington cities like Moses Lake and Ephrata are both forecast to reach 104 degrees this afternoon. This warm trend comes on the heels of increased fire danger around the region.

The National Weather Service has four separate weather alerts to be aware of for Tuesday. An Excessive Heat Warning and Heat Advisory are both in effect on Tuesday. This is the first Excessive Heat Warning issued for Spokane since the changing of their criteria for issuing the warning. There is also a Red Flag Warning and a Fire Weather Watch in effect as seen in the map below.

Temperatures will begin to reach their peak around the 4:00 p.m. hour. Here is a snapshot of your forecast temperatures at that time for Tuesday.

A cold front will move in on Wednesday, bringing temperatures to the lower 90s on Wednesday, and lower 80s to end the work-week.
